The early years of Francis Wheeler are different depending on who you talk to. The story here is that of his daughter Mona.
According to Mona, Francis was born on 16th December 1876 in London. In Ethel’s ‘Birthday Book’ we can see that Francis has signed one of his pen names ‘Greatrex W’.
He moves to the US aged 16 although on the French Wikipedia site it suggests a rather more fanciful story of him stowing away on a ship to the US aged 12 (perhaps a romantic embellishment of the truth).
He marries Christine Gordon Neilson on the 1st of January 1901 in Arnprior, Renfrew, Ontario, Canada, age 24 and together they have a son Roger on the 4th October of the same year in Chicago, Illinois.
Above we see that he graduates from a Chicago seminary in 1903 (age 26).
